En Plein Air Event 2024
September 18-22
Announcing the second annual Stoney Run Artisans’ en Plein Air Event!
Taking place in Rockingham County, Virginia, this en plein air event is hosted by
Stoney Run Artisans & Highland Designs, an artisan shop with locations in McGaheysville, VA and Richmond, VA.
Artists may come 4 days, 3 days, 2 days, or 1 day. Whatever suits your schedule.
Program
Thursday, September 19
Optional Day - Painting Class - Instructor to be announced in March, 2024
$30 per person
Participants may bring oils or acrylic paints for help with those mediums.
Minimum age of 12, no maximum age!
Friday, September 20
Morning - en plein air painting; location to be announced in March, 2024
Bag Lunch available for $10 each, in advance
Afternoon – en plein air painting at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, a beautiful site, with views of the Massanutten Peak and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Tour of a portion of the Farm Museum collection.
Evening - Dinner together $20 each, or dinner on your own.
Saturday, September 21
Breakfast at The Log House, complimentary with registration
Morning - en plein air painting -location to be announced in March
Bag Lunch available for $10 each, in advance
Afternoon/evening – en plein air painting at a local 1800’s barn, with views of the Massanutten Peak and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Evening – Dinner together $20 each
Sunday, September 22
Breakfast at The Log House, complimentary with registration.
Morning – prepare paintings for show, help hang artwork
Noon – 6pm Show and Sale at the barn
Artists will mix and mingle with guests, over appetizers and (non alcoholic) drinks
Artists will price their own paintings, and will contribute 30% of the sale price to
the Shenandoah Valley Farm Museum & Education Center.
This 501(c)3 is planned to be housed in the barn we will be painting.
Any size painting will be allowed this year!
Artists may request complimentary accommodations in The Log House, on a first come first served basis. Apply at highlanddesignsstore@gmail.com.
Other accommodations are available in the area.
Registration is $30, paid to Shenandoah Valley Farm Museum & Education Center.

Entry Fee:
A non-refundable application fee of $30 should accompany each application. Students $20.
Checks to be made to Shenandoah Valley Farm Museum & Education Center.
Applications should be received no later than August 20, 2024.
Artwork Details:
Artists may use stretched canvas, prepared wood boards, or watercolor paper
for their works.
1 - Stretched canvas works must be framed and wired, gallery wrapped and wired,
or simply wired for hanging.
2 - Miniature works must have an easel which is sold with the painting, if they are
not prepared as above.
3 - Works on prepared wood boards must be framed and wired.
4 - Watercolors may be slipped inside an acetate sleeve, with a backing mat board
for a stiffener, and hung with 2 binder clips and a string.
We will have a small selection of reasonably priced 8 x 10 and 11 x 14 frames available for purchase.
Artists may bring their own frames.
NO saw tooth hangers will be accepted.
Artists are responsible for preparing their own paintings for hanging.
Sales:
Artists will contribute 30% of the sales price of paintings sold on September 22 to
the Shenandoah Valley Farm Museum & Education Center, a non profit 501(c)3,
formally known as The Farm Museum in the Shenandoah Valley.
This non-profit is just beginning, and plans to house its’ collection in the barn we will be painting.
Thank you for your support!
If agreed upon by the artist, the artist may participate in a show at The Crossroads Art Center in Richmond, VA, in the Stoney Run Artisans space. The unsold paintings produced at our en Plein Air event will be exhibited at Crossroads Art Center from January 8-March 31, 2025. Artist contribution at the Crossroads location will be 40% of the sales price, of which 18% is to go to Crossroads Art Center for the commission charged by Crossroads. 22% of the sales price will go to the non-profit, Shenandoah Valley Farm Museum & Education Center.

Waiver:
I acknowledge that Stoney Run Artisans & Highland Designs and the Shenandoah Valley Farm Museum & Education Center will not be responsible for the theft nor damage of artwork produced at the En Plein Air event held on Sept 18-22, 2024, at Stoney Run Artisans & Highland Designs, and hung at the barn for exhibition.
I agree to allow photographs of my work, as well as photographs of me painting in the field, to be used in promotional press releases and marketing materials.
I understand that 30% of my sales during the en plein air event will be my personal contribution to the non profit, Shenandoah Valley Farm Museum & Education Center.
A separate agreement will be signed if the participant wishes to have their work shown at Crossroads Art Center.
